Your company may choose not to pay you paid parental leave while you’re waiting for approval from the state for Family and Medical Leave Insurance. While you may be eligible for parental leave pay, you may see a delay.  If you have concerns, reach out to your company.
Who should apply?
Birthing and non-birthing parents, dads, adoptive and foster parents should apply.
How much time is available?
You can take up to 12 weeks paid leave in a 52-week period (starting from the day your leave begins). You may be able to take additional time if you are pregnant, have given birth, or have health needs because of childbirth.

Medical certification must be provided to extend FAMLI beyond 12 weeks.
How much of my pay does FAMLI cover?
Approximately 90% of your average weekly wage, up to a weekly maximum of $1,100 (as of 1/1/24).
When will benefits begin?
Benefits are payable on day 1.
When am I eligible for FAMLI+?
At the earliest, you can start your application 30 days before you start your leave. Your claim will be a draft until proof of birth documentation is submitted.
What to Expect
Once you know you are planning to take leave, notify your employer at least 30 days in advance.  You may submit your claim up to 30 days in advance but no later than 30 days after you begin your leave. To file your claim online, visit My FAMLI+

Review the My FAMLI+ User Guide for Claimants for instructions on how to file your claim.   

If you are the birthing parent, your benefits may be extended to up to 16 weeks with medical certification from a licensed healthcare provider. A separate FAMLI claim for a serious health condition will need to be filed.  

Your company will cover the difference between what STD (if applicable) and FAMLI will pay to the limits of the paid parental leave policy. It is important that you file for these benefits as soon as possible to avoid delays in pay.  
Example Payroll for Birthing Parent
Birthing parent eligible for short-term disability, 14 weeks of FAMLI and 14 weeks of paid parental leave. (Note: Medical certification must be provided to extend FAMLI beyond 12 weeks.)
