Leading up to the presidential election, the conversation around federal reformation and national paid parental leave has gained traction. Only 27% of private employees have access to paid parental leave and only 10 states have an active Paid Family Leave (PFL) program. We should ALL be talking about the need for paid parental leave: loudly and regularly.
Breasts Need Rest is a call for rest, highlighting the need for parental leave after welcoming a child. Just in time for #NationalBreastFeeding month, this campaign is a reminder that parental leave is not a vacation, a luxury, or a nice-to-have, but is a necessary period of rest for every parent to adapt to and enjoy parenthood. Whether this time is used for breast/chestfeeding or catching up on some zzz’s, all parents need and deserve parental leave.
Besides highlighting the growing value-add and ROI of family-friendly policies, we hope this campaign encourages parents to engage with their employers to demand workplace reformation and the adoption, or expansion, of paid parental leave for all genders equitably.
To help amplify the conversation for paid parental leave as a necessary period of rest for the parent and child, we are bringing together partners within The Parenting Ecosystem and care economy to raise awareness of and fight for workplace policy change and equitable access to paid parental leave for all working parents.
This campaign is a collaboration between partners committed to advancing the rights of working parents through impactful workplace policies like equitable paid parental leave. This campaign IS NOT anti-breastfeeding (or anti-anything!) We’re proudly partnering and backed by leaders in the breastfeeding and lactation community.
A huge THANK YOU to our amazing partners who have joined this campaign and helped us curate a fun raffle:
Without a national paid parental leave policy, over 75% of working families, especially working and BIPOC mothers, are forced to make tough personal and household decisions between parenthood and professional growth. Rest comes in different forms and all parents, whether birthing, adopting or fostering, should have access to a mandatory rest period for these five key areas of rest:
Now let's PUSH FOR REST! Interested in joining the campaign? Here’s what you can do:
Request your free Breasts Need Rest sticker and pin pack. This also enters you into a raffle for amazing parent-friendly items from our wonderful partners. This kit is 100% free and shipped by Parento, but make sure you share the kit and tag Parento!
Register for the Parental Leave Summit. This summit is 100% free (we promise) and dedicated exclusively to parental leave, gathering thought leaders and disruptors to advance working parent policies. There are two tracks, you can also earn SHRM and HRCI recertification credits, and rewatch sessions later.
Share your parental leave experience. What does rest mean to you? Talk (loudly) about your parental leave experiences, what it means for your community and industry, and how the rippling effect it has on families and communities. When we collectively share our stories, we break down stigmas, encourage open (and honest) conversation, and take action.
